Optimizing
water use and nutrient potential for successful crop management. Soil
Moisture Monitoring gives you the single-best predictor of plant health.
Soil Moisture Monitoring (SMM) is a key component of CropSense Technology.
The balance of air and water in the crop root system and the availability
of the proper amount of water at each defined crop stage is essential
for plant health and optimal crop production. Proper management of water
is a prerequisite for the success of all other systems involved in crop
production, regardless of a region’s expected rainfall level.
Optimal plant growth requires the delivery of water directly to the
soil medium in the root zone to promote root development and function.
SMM brings the greatest benefit when it can be coupled with a highly
accurate and precise water delivery system such as a T-Tape drip system.
The probes used in CropSense SMM consist of precision capacitance sensors
placed at multiple depths within the root zone taking readings at regular
intervals. Sensors may also be placed below the root systems to show
movement of water through the soil profile or the height of the water
table. Data generated by these probes give a clear picture of the irrigation
dynamics when calibrated and graphed. When accurately interpreted and
coupled with a T-Tape drip system, the grower has a powerful system
and measurement tools for optimal water management.
